Onwards and Upwards

April 2007

After half a Century in our Irton Street premises in Gosforth, we have finally moved due to our continued expansion.

As of 16th April 2007, we have relocated to our purpose built office and warehouse facility in Killingworth.

The new premises are named after the late Jack Foley who founded the company back in 1957. We are currently working to expand the property further, with plans in place to open an on site showroom.

This will be open to both private and trade customers, allowing us to showcase the best selections of tiles and be on hand to offer advice from our fully trained tilers on site.

So, warehouse, office and showroom all centralised in one location making your life easier and our service to you even better thanks to lots of thought and planning from John Foley MD.

Our Glenn goes for gold!

Northumberland College students have scooped Gold and Silver at the national final of Skillbuild.

Glenn Rourke, 21, from Newcastle, was awarded gold and Stephen Elliot, 17, from Gateshead, won silver in the competition, which encourages young people to compete in a number of specialist trades including wall and floor tiling, roofing, plastering, painting, stone masonry and carpentry.

The competition required each student to replicate a bathroom in less than two days. This involved some very difficult fittings and the insertion of movement joints, trims and fix floor tiling.

Glenn Rourke, who has recently completed an NVQ3 wall and floor tiling course at Northumberland College, commented: "Winning the award was great. I came third in last year's Skillbuild so I extremely pleased to win at this year's competition."

Steve Ainsley, Course Team Leader at Northumberland College enthused: "This is the second time that a student from Northumberland College has won gold at the Skillbuild competition so we are delighted."

Over 5,000 people attended the event, which was held at Barnfield College Luton, Bedfordshire, including Phil Hope MP, Under Secretary of State for Skills. The presentation evening was held at Whipsnade Zoo. All students who participated in the event were sponsored by The Tile Association, which represents all aspects of the wall and floor tile industry in the UK.

David Forbes, Chairman of The Tile Association commented: "The TTA is delighted that students from the tiling trades were gold and silver winners of this years Skillbuild. It recognises their achievements and skills and hopefully will encourage more people to take up tiling as a career."

He added: "We would like to encourage more tiling contractors to join the TTA and get their trainees to qualify for NVQs via our training programmes and perhaps be winners of Skillbuild in the future."

Persimmon is a housebuilding company, which has been trading since 1972 and became a FTSE 100 company in December 2005. When a tender for a development of apartments in Gosforth landed on our desk, we were keen to win the contract as it was on our doorstep. After some intense research and keen pricing – we did! We are all very proud to be involved with this development and a few celebratory drinks were had by all.
